Book Restoration

Book restoration and document restoration are crafts within themselves. We have seen books that have had a piece of tape put on them and the bookbutcher involved has claimed to have restored them. We wouldn't even call it a repair. We do not profess to be able to do everything and the best way to find out, is to bring the book in to us. Maybe you can take a digital picture and email it to us but only so much can be done without physically seeing the item.

Sometimes the best thing we can suggest to keep the patina and feel of the original work is to simply make an archival box for storage and to restrict further decay. We value the items that we are entrusted with and we will tell you straight out if we feel we cannot restore them. In our philosophy, each generation caretakes items that can give enjoyment to the next. We do not shirk from that philosophy for the sake of profit.

Unfortunately we are not as quick as we would like to be. Our employee's skills in in this area are increasingly being called upon elsewhere. Not only in our business, but also by other bookbinders who do not have them, and want us to work for them. We will however, do our best to help you and if you have a strict realistic deadline, we will try our best to meet it.
